In 2012 and 2013, HealthyStuff.org tested 114 consumer products from Target. Nine percent (10 of 114) of the Target products had levels of bromine above 400 ppm, suggesting the use of brominated flame retardants . Approximately 42% (48 of 114) of the products contained chlorine above 3,500 ppm, suggesting the use of either polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or chlorinated flame retardants. In 2013, we released a study on common outdoor picnic products and found that several of the products purchased at Target contained phthalates, high levels of lead, and hazardous flame retardants.
