Best Buy

Best Buy Product Image From 2012 to 2013, HealthyStuff.org tested Best Buy products for our winter screening project. Two out of the three products from Best Buy contained chlorine levels above 3,500 ppm. Chlorine is likely associated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a widely used type of plastic that is of concern to the environment and public health during all phases of its life cycle. Flexible PVC contains chemicals called phthalates, some of which have been associated with decreased fertility, pre-term deliveries, and damage to the liver, testes, thyroid, ovaries, kidneys, and blood.

A set of headphones from Best Buy purchased for our 2013 End-of-the-Year 'Wrap Up' contained 335,528 ppm of lead or 33% of lead by weight.

Mind the Store is a national coalition calling on the top 10 retailers in the US to reduce the prevalence of toxic chemicals in consumer products.
