The HealthyToys.org Lead Check Widget (BETA)
How to embed the Widget on your web site
Press the “get & share” button at the bottom of the Widget. Press the “copy code” button and then paste it into the HTML of the page on which you wish it to appear.
Add the HealthyToys.org Lead Check Widget to your web site and help your audience make informed choices about the children’s products they purchase. Users of the Widget can search the HealthyToys.org database by product name, UPC code, brand, and level of lead detection (HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW, or NONE). The results will link to the HealthyToys.org web site, where additional results are available, including detailed test results for other chemicals of concern.
How to use the Widget
Type whatever information you are seeking in the box containing "Search for a Toy." You can search for products by name (such as Barbie, Dinosaur, or Spiderman), a brand name (such as Melissa & Doug, Lego or playmobil), a product UPC code (a number, like 98765432101), or the level of lead detection in a toy (HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW, or NONE). These searches can be combined, e.g. (barbie low or spiderman none). The names of any products that match your query will be displayed next to the overall level of detection of lead in the product. If the product name is too long to fit in the Widget, you can move your mouse over the product to find out the entire name.
Things to note:
- Queries do not need to be in upper case.
- The maximum number of results per query is 30.
Requirements
In order to run the Widget, you must have Adobe Flash Player version 9 or higher installed. Adobe Flash Player may be downloaded here. The Widget also requires a network connection in order to function.
Known issues
The following are known issues and/or bugs with the Widget.
- Firefox Bug: Users running Firefox have reported occasional problems typing in the Widget’s search box. This problem can be avoided by clicking in the search box and keeping your mouse cursor over the Widget.
- Firefox Bug: If you use Firefox with pop-up blocking enabled, you may find that clicking on a toy generates a “Firefox prevented this site from opening a pop-up window” warning when clicking on a product. You may either create an exception for the site hosting the Widget or try clicking multiple times on the product.
- Some words are reserved. The words HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW, and NONE have special meaning, and will refine your search based on the respective lead level. For example a search of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL would return only the “School Musical” products that had a high level of lead. To find all the “High School Musical” products, just search for SCHOOL MUSICAL.
- Safari v3.2.1 Bug: Some Safari users have experienced problems when, after clicking the “get & share” button, and then pressing the X button in the upper right, it then becomes impossible to type in the search box. This is a bug in the Clearspring® widget sharing system. The problem can be remedied by either clicking on the Find button, or by reloading the page. The bug has been reported to Clearspring Technologies, Inc.
- Safari v3.2.1 Bug: Some Safari users have reported that the links on the widget’s “Help” page do not work when the Widget is embedded in the Clearspring widget sharing system.
