HealthyStuff.org has conducted extensive testing on a wide range of apparel and
accessories. Based on our testing, jewelry, handbags and other types of accessories
are the most likely to contain elevated levels of hazardous chemicals when
compared with all other product categories tested. HealthyStuff.org and our
product testing partner, the Center for Environmental Health - California tested
over 100 women's plastic handbags and detected lead in over 75% of the bags
analyzed. 64% of the plastic bags contained lead over 300 ppm -- the CPSC limit
for lead in children's products. Over half of the plastic handbags contain >1,000
ppm lead.
